Vietnam – Heron House Hoi An

Eager to get to our accommodation we pass the rice paddies and bustling old town and head toward the Villa.  Rachel received recommendations to stay off the beaten path at The Heron house. A picturesque bed and breakfast with stunning views of the Hoi An rice paddies. We walked in and were greeted by our hosts Loïc and Van Anh. Given the grand tour I could not help but stand in awe, each room more beautiful than the next.

You could tell the place was made with relaxation in mind and that is exactly what we did on our first night.  Loïc made us delicious drinks while we learned more about our hosts and how they came to be in Hoi An.

With a beautiful homemade breakfast the next morning we were ready to explore the Ancient City.  We grabbed bikes and headed down the path through the paddies.

We rode our way through the busy streets which can be very daunting for those not used to it. Rachel is very experienced with Vietnam transport travel so my dad and I followed behind. Entering the town is like stepping back in time, lanterns of all colours fill the streets, music playing, and locals eager to meet tourists and show off the area (and their wares).

We explored the Old Quarter on foot walking many streets and learning more about the history of Hoi An. We ate lunch and visited some of the local dress shops in the afternoon. It is very popular to have clothing made custom around Southeast Asia and I was happy to bring home some new souvenirs.

Wearing our local finds, we headed to dinner at Aubergine  a recommendation from our hosts featuring European fine dining. Feeling ready for a night out we headed to the Ancient Town. Along the Thu Bon River everyone is dancing and celebrating you cant help but want to join in. We saw endless lampions and street carts filled with souvenirs for all ages. We grabbed drinks along the river and watched all the action.

The next day we opted for a little R and R at An Bang Beach. Seaside cabanas and coconuts to pass the time.

Watching the sunset on our last day in Hoi An wrapped up a perfect visit to this iconic Ancient Town. Heron House made our stay incredible and I know I will be back to visit again someday!
